FIRED!

no, not me.  but i did fire someone recently.  that being, the personal trainer.

when i started with her, this is how one of the more important exchanges went:
me: i am going to tell you something and when i do, you will think i am just like every other girl and that i'm just saying this.
her: o.k.
me:  when i lift weights, i bulk up. if i exercise excessively in any way, i tend to bulk up.  i don't know why it is, it just is, so i am needing someone who will listen to that, believe it, and work with me on that.
her:  well, i don't believe that it is physically possible, but we'll work with it.
me: no really...i mean, even my mom, who of course wouldn't want to tell me that i'm "bulky", thinks this as well.  she said it has been that way since i was little.  i'm not a twig and seriously, even when i was little, i was never that kid with little stick legs
her: o.k., well work with it

within a week, i was then squatting with 90 pound weights and doing butt exercises with 75 pounds on one leg.  i followed along dutifully, because 1. i was paying her and figured that she knew best and 2. because i was a moron.

after my weight loss in the beginning, i started creeping back up there.  my thighs started feeling tight in my pants, while yes, my waist was smaller...but still.

i talked to her about this at that time.  apparently she didn't believe me then either, because we continued on.

i spent $800 on a large mistake.  that mistake was that someone else would know my body better than myself.

i let her go...partially, because i couldn't afford going on with her, but also partly because i didn't want to pay for my American Gladiator outfit that i was going to have to buy, if my legs kept expanding at the rate that they were.

happy to report, weight is now being lost, i'm doing strict cardio for legs, weights for abs and arms.

I hear ya. I don't know about weights for abs and arms. That's next, I think.

Sounds like she was using some pre-written workout with high weights when you need something with lower weights and more reps!

So, it's bad enough when said personal trainer doesn't listen to you in a social setting. But, it's her job to listen to you at the gym. That's really disappointing she missed the lesson on how to be an active listener. Too bad for her, but glad to hear you've retaken the reigns of your own life.

Good for you for knowing what works for you & what doesn't - AND sticking by that - eventually.

I think we all believe that the "experts" know best (including doctors, etc.) & follow their advice even when our bodies tell us that it doesn't work. It is hard to buck the trend & stick to what will work for us. I'm glad you did.

a little something about me and the life i choose to live!
