what's going on...
i'm sure you could sense in some way....i've been a bit disgruntled lately.
we have a saying in our office on a print that states "We tend to seek happiness when happiness is actually a choice". i think i got caught up in the poor me attitude that is SO easy to fall into and luckily, this weekend, after a particularly dull time, i realized that i had a choice to choose happiness and i was choosing to feel the opposite.
so, i'm back on the horse again and there every day with a good attitude. At one job, i'm closing on a house soon...at another, i'm doing my HR assistant job, along with training for a recruiting position, where i'll be taking over for a woman's maternity leave. i LOVE the recruiting piece... i mean, i think i really love it. but in the end of it all, this experience will give me just that....experience.
i'm hoping that my niche in life will come. do i love real estate, yes. but i cannot deal with the thought that my salary would be unknown and dependant on such volitile things. so, i figure that i'm destined for other things. do i love school counseling, yes. but it may not be what i need to be doing. so, i found a field that i have the potential to use both skills and for now, i feel thankful.

compensation
not being compensated for a job well done is a tough pill to swallow. i guess in the past, compensation meant being paid....now, i realize, there are many ways of being compensated or feeling worthy. it has much more to do with feeling recognized and appreciated, than it does to do with having cash in your hand.
i would say also that many of us would say that we are paid less than what we are actually worth? maybe not, but i guess i've always been in nonprofit jobs that i expected to make less than the average person. it was the feeling of having done something for the good of others that made the job for me. it always has been. when i was in real estate, i would honestly say, it was one of of the first times that i felt that i made more than enough and i made what i was worth. if i didn't, i always had the ability to plead my case and usually, if nothing else, i was heard.
it is very hard then to be in a position that i'm in now. granted, i realize that i'm in a few jobs, so you have no clue what i may be talking about. i feel very strongly about the fact that i've put my all into a job that i was WAY overly qualified to do. i spend endless amounts of overtime, sweat and sometimes tears in this position and regardless of how meaningless this job seemed to others at times...i got it. they needed the position to make the bigger whole run.
so, when my compensation is a few cents more than what i was currently making, you can understand my frustration. i don't have the internal comfort of knowing that i'm doing a social/moral good for others. just a few cents to say, "thanks for your work". and i have to say, i'm not sure that its worth it right now.
the fact that most days, i'm away from my home for 16 hours...probably not worth it. the fact that i know less about what' sgoing on at home, than i do in a small cubile space that now seems like a universe...not sure.

sometimes, life doesn't turn out the way we thought it would...
but it's all part of the plan. I think that sometimes that's the hardest thing to realize.
t and I talk a lot...in fact, just this a.m. about how life didn't turn out how we thought it would. he had said something funny, i think he was singing a song about butts and nickels and he made a comment about how he thought when he was an adult, that we would have to be serious and stuffy and he just couldn't believe that it was like it is.
i have a friend...actually two friends, who are a couple, and right now, things are not turning out the way they thought they would. i have no doubt in my head, that things will turn out so WAY far above their wildest dreams, they will be sitting there in a few years wondering how life got this way...so perfect and so great.
t and i are taking a trip to st. thomas in a bit. right now, he is begrudgingly telling co-workers, "my wife is having me to go st. thomas". they are seriously wondering what is wrong with him. he likes being in control. traveling and flying, to a lot of people, are NOT the things that make us feel in control. sometimes, we have to let go and let what is going to happen....happen.
so to my friends, whom i love SO much: "It makes no sense to worry about things you have no control over because there's nothing you can do about them, and why worry about things you do control? The activity of worrying keeps you immobilized. "-Wayne Dyer

my job
my job actually consists of very little to do with shoes, even though it's a shoe company. i'm more on the people side of it. one of the bad/good things about it, is that we are expected to wear the company's shoes every day to work. it would be bad...however, in the past few years, the line has gotten more diversified and i actually love them. the other great thing is that we get some cash to spend on our shoe collection as well.
so, the other day, we headed to the store and I came home with these boxes:
Which held in them my favorites of the winter season....behold!
i am incredibly happy with all of this. it's fulfilling two needs...my need to work, and my need for shoes. What could be better???

can there be any more good news??
wow, today was a load of good news. in the morning, we realized that there was some snow on the ground. t was up and shoveling away....i checked my work email and found that although the company wasn't closed, they did give each director free reign as to what their department should do. ours gave us the option to stay at home. which would be great, but my job isn't one that i can stay home for. so, i trudged off in the snow. but i made it just fine and went to work 1 and headed to work 2. slip sliding away the whole time. i get the impression and also advice from other people, that cars don't come with good tires on them! so, i got to work, had a productive time.
I got news last week that there would be a change in my job, and a good one at that. I'm going to be taking over for a woman's maternity leave, as a corporate recruiter. now, this should be fun and challenging! i'm really excited to learn all i can about it and see if it's something that fits the bill in terms of being a "passion" of mine.
i left early, got my mom's car, which has 4WD and headed home. I had packed away a whole bunch of filing and sat in front of the tv for the afternoon doing that!
but off to the good news. I talked to a friend this a.m. at about 5:30 and she said that her husband had been contacted by a company in ft. collins (where I am) they are interested in him for a job. out of the clear blue sky. i was so excited. they have some things keeping them in the state where they are in, but THEN later in the day, we found that these things may be lifted sooner than later! HOW EXCITING. I'm just sure that they will hold this job for him....i'm hoping and praying!

little meme!!!
Current Book(s): i'm reading the girl with the dragon tattoo. yes, i realize i'm probably the last person on earth to read this. but i have it on my free kindle phone app. so, im reading it...small page, by small page. also reading "knit one, kill two". not a common read, but its set in the town that we live in and involves a high end knitting store that actually exists, in town.
Current Playlist: my husband has recently discovered 90s rock. i don't know where he was in the 90s, but he missed this era of music and has started playing it. this, has given me great nostalgia for everything that was playing in college. this has me listening to pearl jam "black", all kinds of stuff by bush, and lots of other songs.
.
Current Shame-Inducing Guilty Pleasure: Justin's Nut Butter. this is not a current one, but also a past and future one. i love this stuff. i can't help it. and it doesn't help that the company sent over samples to our company for a trade
Current Color: meh, maybe yellow, but that's an always color too
Current Drink: hot tea
Current Food(s): i'm discovering a new found love for tuna or chicken sandwiches and instead of mayo (which I don't like), using avocados. super good!
Current Favorite Show(s): The bachelor (what a circus show that is)
Current Wishlist: I think an e-reader. I saw I think because i've not realized if I would use it....also, i don't have time to read a regular book...i don't know what making it computerized would do
Current Needs: some new clothes
Current Bane(s) of my Existence: nothing really
Current Celebrity Crush: Like always, Michale Cera. i really do love pretty much anything he's in
Current Outfit: sweatshirt, long sleeve shirt and yoga-ish pants.
Current Excitement: new responsibilities at the job, starting in May. that's exciting!

what we are doing...or not doing, for that matter!
since i wanted to get my vacation in as early as possible, and t has to get his in ASAP in order to get it, we both have all of our weeks of vacation off on the work calendars! it's an awesome feeling to have a plan like that, but kind of overwhelming when realizing how MUCH we'll be gone....
first off, in March, i'm traveling to MN with t for a work trip...just a couple days, but we get back, work for 2 days, then its off to ST. THOMAS!!!! WOOOO HOOOO. when we get back, we are contemplating traveling to Austin for our Texas Road Rash race that we usually participate in. if we do though, it'll be for one weekend only. After that, i'll be going to Dallas in the middle of May for a baptism, in which i'm a key player. you see, someone was crazy awesome enough to ask me to be their baby's fairy godmother. so, i'll be traveling down there that weekend.
The last weekend in May, i'll betrying to think about doing this triathlon. it would be my first and supposedly is a good one for beginners...we'll see...
first week in June, t has a work thing in Dallas. I'll be going again to spend more time with the little goddaughter. in June, there is a 6 day period when we will be traveling tosomewhere in WI to do our first try of an inline marathon there! so excited. this course promises smooth road to skate on...i'm so excited, i may do a full marathon, rather than the halfs that i've done for the past couple years!
September is Northshore inline....another usual for us and likely one that we will never miss. October 1st is my sister in laws wedding, back in MN, so yes, we'll be coming back one week and leaving almost the next for the wedding.
WHEW, i'm tired just thinking about this. no, not really.....i'm very excited. particularly about thinking about the triathlon. i'll just have to find a way to train for the swimming. our pool at the gym is so gross, green, dark, and humid...i have a tough time there.

the scoop!
so, lots has been going on lately, but apparently i haven't gotten time to write about it. we have been busy, as usual with work. lots of drama occurs when females work together. more so than when it's just men, in my opinion. there is a lot of gossip, more speculation, and a lot of laughing that goes on. as i mentioned, working with girls also means baby talk. i agree with all of you on my last post. juni, i completely agree, especially when people are TRYING to have children...to hear talk of that non stop, must be gut wrenching. it is for me and i'm not even trying to have kids. i just think it's a matter of sensitivity involved...on both sides, for people that have kids and people that don't. i've come to grips with some of it, i think i may go talk to a woman that is involved that doesn't have kids and see how she feels about it/deals with it in the workplace.
my father in law was in town this weekend. we had a great time. t went out of his way to really make his dad feel welcome. he re did the bedroom completely. it looks amazing. then he put a basket full of treats in the room that his dad likes: beef jerky, cheez its, chips, etc. then he went out and bought one of those fancy coffee machines, you know the one that makes one cup at a time? it's so cool....and it makes green tea! i got some and it's SO good.
on a health note, the doctors never found out what is wrong. they think it's an autoimmune something or other, but i did find through all the tests, that 1. my cholesterol is high, but my good cholesterol is so good, they will not put me on meds at this young age. 2. i had a severe vitamin D deficiency, a omega 3 deficiency and a calcium deficiency! needless to say, the next day, i went out and got a whole stash of vitamins.
on a great note, we are going to St. Thomas in april! we won a trip and my parents, their best friends and us are going a little trip! can't wait! t is less than excited for the actual travel part, but I'm really thrilled for it!!!

can't stop talking....
about babies. and no, i don't mean me. i am, for the first time, employed in a job where i am surrounded with people that are my age or younger. this is a a great change for me, except in one aspect. i am engulfed, on a daily basis, but a bunch of baby crazy people.
do not get me wrong, i love me some babies. i really do. but to be surrounded, day in and day out, by conversation about them, comments about them, thoughts about them, etc. is just a bit too much for my head to handle right now. i, for the first time, had a serious break down the other day and started second guessing myself about children, and i singlehandedly attribute it to this job. i feel like, on a daily basis, that there is something "wrong" with me now, for not having kids. like, i'm selfish, and looked down upon.
in the past few weeks, i have either been told or been on the listening end of conversations that go like:
"you don't know how to really love something until you've had a child"
"people who don't have kids are just irresponsible people in general"
"do you have kids? oh, then you wouldn't understand"
"do you know that when..." and then an explaination of child development that I could have schooled the person on....they DO know that that was my focus in grad school..
"do you have kids? oh, that's too bad...you're really missing out"
"oh, WHEN you decide to have them, your life will be ten times better than it is now"
this is getting old. i got out for lunch yesterday with a kid-less coworker and i sat in his car in serious relief and just thanked GOD that he didn't have the need to talk about children.
it almost feels like reverse discrimiation. it's really hard and makes the days hard to get through.
on another note, i'm super swamped...still waiting for the test results from the mystery disease, so we'll keep waiting.

wow, i've been gone
and by gone, i mean, i haven't even read a blog, in what seems like weeks. i know that you shouldn't come back in the game by reading every single one since you left, but i don't want to really miss something BIG, you know?
no good excuse, i was working, then off for almost a week, due to a flu or something of the sort.
many great things have happened...i received my NEW VIBRAMS from t!!!! i love them. they make you hurt in some new places though and defintiely am taking my time getting used to them. i had a week off at work in the HR sector and worked at the real estate thing for a week...now, talk about shock...i couldn't remember what i was even doing for the first couple days.
i went to the doctor at the end of the year, because we had met our deductable and i had been thinking about getting a diabetes test, as well as a thyroid test. those both came back fantastically well, but i did find out i have hypoglycemia, which I suspected, AND i had a test come back that was very irregular. i didn't think too much of it at the time, but the more i researched about it, the more i realized how serious the implications may be. so, we're waiting 12 days to get the tests back...so, we'll see.
i'm back at both jobs...planning a trip with the 'rents to St. Thomas!!!!! YAAY!!!!!
This year will be great! i've missed you, all my friends...i'll be busy for the next few weeks catching up, then posting more this year, than ever!

i'm sure you could sense in some way....i've been a bit disgruntled lately.
we have a saying in our office on a print that states "We tend to seek happiness when happiness is actually a choice". i think i got caught up in the poor me attitude that is SO easy to fall into and luckily, this weekend, after a particularly dull time, i realized that i had a choice to choose happiness and i was choosing to feel the opposite.
so, i'm back on the horse again and there every day with a good attitude. At one job, i'm closing on a house soon...at another, i'm doing my HR assistant job, along with training for a recruiting position, where i'll be taking over for a woman's maternity leave. i LOVE the recruiting piece... i mean, i think i really love it. but in the end of it all, this experience will give me just that....experience.
i'm hoping that my niche in life will come. do i love real estate, yes. but i cannot deal with the thought that my salary would be unknown and dependant on such volitile things. so, i figure that i'm destined for other things. do i love school counseling, yes. but it may not be what i need to be doing. so, i found a field that i have the potential to use both skills and for now, i feel thankful.

not being compensated for a job well done is a tough pill to swallow. i guess in the past, compensation meant being paid....now, i realize, there are many ways of being compensated or feeling worthy. it has much more to do with feeling recognized and appreciated, than it does to do with having cash in your hand.
i would say also that many of us would say that we are paid less than what we are actually worth? maybe not, but i guess i've always been in nonprofit jobs that i expected to make less than the average person. it was the feeling of having done something for the good of others that made the job for me. it always has been. when i was in real estate, i would honestly say, it was one of of the first times that i felt that i made more than enough and i made what i was worth. if i didn't, i always had the ability to plead my case and usually, if nothing else, i was heard.
it is very hard then to be in a position that i'm in now. granted, i realize that i'm in a few jobs, so you have no clue what i may be talking about. i feel very strongly about the fact that i've put my all into a job that i was WAY overly qualified to do. i spend endless amounts of overtime, sweat and sometimes tears in this position and regardless of how meaningless this job seemed to others at times...i got it. they needed the position to make the bigger whole run.
so, when my compensation is a few cents more than what i was currently making, you can understand my frustration. i don't have the internal comfort of knowing that i'm doing a social/moral good for others. just a few cents to say, "thanks for your work". and i have to say, i'm not sure that its worth it right now.
the fact that most days, i'm away from my home for 16 hours...probably not worth it. the fact that i know less about what' sgoing on at home, than i do in a small cubile space that now seems like a universe...not sure.

but it's all part of the plan.
"-Wayne Dyer

my job actually consists of very little to do with shoes, even though it's a shoe company. i'm more on the people side of it. one of the bad/good things about it, is that we are expected to wear the company's shoes every day to work. it would be bad...however, in the past few years, the line has gotten more diversified and i actually love them. the other great thing is that we get some cash to spend on our shoe collection as well.
so, the other day, we headed to the store and I came home with these boxes:

Current Excitement: new responsibilities at the job, starting in May. that's exciting!

since i wanted to get my vacation in as early as possible, and t has to get his in ASAP in order to get it, we both have all of our weeks of vacation off on the work calendars! it's an awesome feeling to have a plan like that, but kind of overwhelming when realizing how MUCH we'll be gone....
first off, in March, i'm traveling to MN with t for a work trip...just a couple days, but we get back, work for 2 days, then its off to ST.
WHEW, i'm tired just thinking about this. no, not really.....i'm very excited. particularly about thinking about the triathlon. i'll just have to find a way to train for the swimming. our pool at the gym is so gross, green, dark, and humid...i have a tough time there.

so, lots has been going on lately, but apparently i haven't gotten time to write about it. we have been busy, as usual with work. lots of drama occurs when females work together. more so than when it's just men, in my opinion. there is a lot of gossip, more speculation, and a lot of laughing that goes on. as i mentioned, working with girls also means baby talk. i agree with all of you on my last post. juni, i completely agree, especially when people are TRYING to have children...to hear talk of that non stop, must be gut wrenching. it is for me and i'm not even trying to have kids. i just think it's a matter of sensitivity involved...on both sides, for people that have kids and people that don't. i've come to grips with some of it, i think i may go talk to a woman that is involved that doesn't have kids and see how she feels about it/deals with it in the workplace.
my father in law was in town this weekend. we had a great time. t went out of his way to really make his dad feel welcome. he re did the bedroom completely. it looks amazing. then he put a basket full of treats in the room that his dad likes: beef jerky, cheez its, chips, etc. then he went out and bought one of those fancy coffee machines, you know the one that makes one cup at a time? it's so cool....and it makes green tea! i got some and it's SO good.
on a health note, the doctors never found out what is wrong. they think it's an autoimmune something or other, but i did find through all the tests, that 1. my cholesterol is high, but my good cholesterol is so good, they will not put me on meds at this young age. 2. i had a severe vitamin D deficiency, a omega 3 deficiency and a calcium deficiency! needless to say, the next day, i went out and got a whole stash of vitamins.
on a great note, we are going to St. Thomas in april! we won a trip and my parents, their best friends and us are going a little trip! can't wait! t is less than excited for the actual travel part, but I'm really thrilled for it!!!

about babies. and no, i don't mean me. i am, for the first time, employed in a job where i am surrounded with people that are my age or younger. this is a a great change for me, except in one aspect. i am engulfed, on a daily basis, but a bunch of baby crazy people.
do not get me wrong, i love me some babies. i really do. but to be surrounded, day in and day out, by conversation about them, comments about them, thoughts about them, etc. is just a bit too much for my head to handle right now. i, for the first time, had a serious break down the other day and started second guessing myself about children, and i singlehandedly attribute it to this job. i feel like, on a daily basis, that there is something "wrong" with me now, for not having kids. like, i'm selfish, and looked down upon.
in the past few weeks, i have either been told or been on the listening end of conversations that go like:
"you don't know how to really love something until you've had a child"
"people who don't have kids are just irresponsible people in general"
"do you have kids? oh, then you wouldn't understand"
"do you know that when..." and then an explaination of child development that I could have schooled the person on....they DO know that that was my focus in grad school..
"do you have kids? oh, that's too bad...you're really missing out"
"oh, WHEN you decide to have them, your life will be ten times better than it is now"
this is getting old. i got out for lunch yesterday with a kid-less coworker and i sat in his car in serious relief and just thanked GOD that he didn't have the need to talk about children.
it almost feels like reverse discrimiation. it's really hard and makes the days hard to get through.
on another note, i'm super swamped...still waiting for the test results from the mystery disease, so we'll keep waiting.

and by gone, i mean, i haven't even read a blog, in what seems like weeks. i know that you shouldn't come back in the game by reading every single one since you left, but i don't want to really miss something BIG, you know?
no good excuse, i was working, then off for almost a week, due to a flu or something of the sort.
many great things have happened...i received my NEW VIBRAMS from t!!!! i love them. they make you hurt in some new places though and defintiely am taking my time getting used to them. i had a week off at work in the HR sector and worked at the real estate thing for a week...now, talk about shock...i couldn't remember what i was even doing for the first couple days.
i went to the doctor at the end of the year, because we had met our deductable and i had been thinking about getting a diabetes test, as well as a thyroid test. those both came back fantastically well, but i did find out i have hypoglycemia, which I suspected, AND i had a test come back that was very irregular. i didn't think too much of it at the time, but the more i researched about it, the more i realized how serious the implications may be. so, we're waiting 12 days to get the tests back...so, we'll see.
i'm back at both jobs...planning a trip with the 'rents to St. Thomas!!!!! YAAY!!!!!
This year will be great! i've missed you, all my friends...i'll be busy for the next few weeks catching up, then posting more this year, than ever!
