to meat or not to meat

i was put in a tizzy on thursday because of this article: Getting Real About the High Price of Cheap Food
in time magazine.

when i was in jr. high, i did some sort of speech and then was soon after approached by the high school debate coach to participate in a speech contest, as she had watched me previously.  i had no clue what i was doing, and it wasn't for a grade, so i did what any person would do, and researched the crap out of a topic that i knew nothing about.  i don't know why, but i chose the topic of animal rights.  i did the contest, i don't remember if i won or lost...but i knew more about this topic than i would have in any other situation...and i had talked my mom from out of getting a fur coat.  point for me.

i had a boyfriend in jr. high, that was vegetarian.  not uncommon for people in colorado, but in jr. high?  anyway, i tried a stint of that for a while...but not for any real cause.

after reading this article...i don't know if i can eat any more meat again.  i started thinking about how i cannot watch things that are negative towards animals...then i started wondering if i have been running from what i need to read and know about.  isn't that what we do, as humans?  not investigate and hide from things that could possibly have a gigantic impact on our lives?

i wrote to a friend from high school, who had posted many things on facebook about being vegan.  she wasn't, i didn't think, in high school, so i asked her to tell me her story and what caused this for her.  she was helpful and gave me tons of reading materials that she had read that had swayed her into veganism.  for a split second, the thought came into my head, that "I can't read this stuff...it will make me too sad", but then i realized, i can't NOT read this stuff, if it is factual.
