my meetings

my meeting with my friend Ryan was great.  uneventful, great food, great catching up...a really fun time.  got a sense of who he was, and who he had become since he left school with one year to go.  he seemed happy right now, which was something that i don't think he was, during the entire time that i knew him previously.  he seemed comfortable in his skin.  it was really good to see.  he met t and i at fogo de chao and even though it was restaurant week in Denver, he managed to make a connection with the conceierge and we got in.

the second meeting was a little different.  i went to pick a friend up in Denver, spent the day in Boulder, then came to our house, spent the night and brought her to the airport this a.m. at 6:30. within 5 minutes, i heard how awful the situation with the husband was, within 30 minutes i knew that she had decided at some point to pursue a relationship with another man.  the rest of the trip was a variation of this in some way, as said man was contacting her and showing her the attention that the husband was not.  while i thought she wanted advice on what to do, it became apparent that she did not.  she was going to continue on doing this, at the expense of her name, her "fame" in her city, and at eventually, i'm sure, her children.

what was sad was the response that she had received from people when she talked of leaving her husband.  from her mother, she got "how will you live without the lifestyle that you have now?".  this came from very many other places.  she has a priviledged lifestyle, always has, probably more so than anyone i have ever met.  it's sad that people think that she should stay because she couldn't survive without the lifestyle...especially her mom.  but in some aspects, it may be true.

again, grateful for my life
