not more than an hour later, i get an email from my sister-in-law, asking if we (t and i) wanted to form a team and do it.
yikes.
we are, we are signed up, have a team, etc. the only drawback to doing this, if there is such a thing....is the fact that i'm not really still comfortable on bikes when they are on actual ground and there are people around me. (this is just a slight detail). i have no doubt in my ability to finish, i know i will, however, there is that anxiety that hits me when i think of going down a hill on a bike.
i had a bike accident when we were on a family trip to Canada. granted, i was 8. but, in the course of the trip, the bike i was learning to ride on with "real" brakes, had faulty ones. i flew off my bike, was knocked unconscious and flew in front of a car. i had run into my mom at this point, who also got knocked off her bike and had injuries WAY worse than mine. this was, as an only child, one of the worst experiences i had. i, on top of just learning how to ride, singlehandedly almost took out 2/3 of my family.
since that time, in the past 6 years, i have gotten back on a bike, done hard mountain bike trails, t got me a road bike, and i have ridden on it outside, done a duathlon on it, and enjoyed it. because of those things, i fully feel that this is doable.
this is for a very good cause. i know that the fundraising aspect is daunting right now, especially with the financial situation what it is right now. if you can give, click on the words below the picture....it will link to my homepage...if you can't...click on it anyway to learn more about this great event. i bet they have one near you. if you don't bike, you can sign up as a virtual participant on our team. there are MANY options to help out this great cause.

I was in a horrible bike accident when I was 13. I still have not gotten over my fear. I will ride, but only under perfect conditions and if someone is with me. (I was alone when I crashed.)
Kate, i found it completely impossible for me to even have the desire to get on a bike for years. what i find interesting also, is that you will only ride with people because you were alone when you crashed, then i like riding alone because mine affected other people.
It is great that you have the courage to get back on and do this after what happened :)
