i think i found what i want to be when i grow up
we have had the hardest year or couple years that we have had, since my dad got into real estate 37 years ago. it sucks people. on top of that, my parents were getting close to retirement. we lost money to work last year. i'm not kidding. so, all that said, it's not seeming as worth it right now. my parents don't want me to miss out on anything waiting for them to retire, and i don't want them to keep working, in order to keep me employed. so, i thought i'd put my job feelers out there for a bit.
i did and the return....was harsh. it's tough out there in general, but even tougher for social workers, who, as you know, aren't known for raking in the money. i actually haven't seen any hard facts, but the encouraging thing, is that there are jobs out there. there was one as a hospital social worker, which i've always wanted to do, but i've heard those jobs are tough to get.
today, i did a search and clicked on one that i hadn't before. it was titled "family support coordinator". i read the description and i think that i was holding my breath the whole time. what it is, long story short, is a person who coordinates and helps families, who have lost someone, learn to deal with organ donation that they may or may not have known that their deceased family member had chosen.
for those of you newbies...my dad had a liver transplant two and a half years ago. it's a long story, summarized in a short way here, but i guess i haven't written in depth about it before. he wasn't an alcoholic, he just got sick and while his body fought off disease, it destroyed his body. he is amazingly well now. i'll write about it in detail soon, as i realize i haven't yet.
i applied for this job and have been nervous the rest of the day. nervous with just wanting a call about this job. haven't felt that way in a LONG time....
a little something about me and the life i choose to live!

When my uncle passed away all of his organs were donated. The people who received his organs were so grateful to my aunt. It made us all feel so much better.
Good luck with the application! My husband has been searching for a job for a long time now, and it's stressful! -

Even if you don't get THIS particular job, you now have a path - something to follow. Isn't it exciting?

You had what I'll call an a-ha moment. You found a job that not only are you suited for, but that you'd be really, personally passionate about. Fingers crossed for you!

yes, life takes really unexpected turns. i agree, this may not be THE job, but at least i found one that i would be very passionate about and that in and of itself is pretty exciting to me. I'm just as excited about the school counselor thing, however, with budget cuts, it gets scarier every month on that front. this is just a renewal of the fact that there could be something else out there for me...instead of the path i was looking down
