I am glad that I do not live in japan, after living here. Simple reason being...I would be 500 pounds. I think it's the novelty of food there, really. Maybe it tastes like crap for real, but because it's new...it's so good. take, for instance...the pocky.
Pocky are quite literally, some of the best stick foods you can eat. And, on top of it, they have one for EVERYONE. For those of you with whimsy and kid like qualities they have Hello Kitty Pocky
For those of you with a more refined taste, they have....creme brulee and flan pocky. You may wonder why there is a horse thingy on it. maybe it's a dog? I don't know
and finally, the sexually discriminating pocky

I LOVE Pocky, except my entire life I've called it POKEY -- so that's what I will always call it -- I love'em. and they are GREAT snacks for kiddies!
you know those rice candies, where you take off the wrapper and there is this chewy candy wrapped in a rice wrapper and you eat that part...i love that. I brought it into work for some ppl to try, they were all freaked thinking i was eating paper --- then they tried it and loved it. Japan has some awesome goodies.
