slight addiction

I am glad that I do not live in japan, after living here. Simple reason being...I would be 500 pounds. I think it's the novelty of food there, really. Maybe it tastes like crap for real, but because it's new...it's so good. take, for instance...the pocky.

Pocky are quite literally, some of the best stick foods you can eat. And, on top of it, they have one for EVERYONE. For those of you with whimsy and kid like qualities they have Hello Kitty Pocky

For those of you with a more refined taste, they have....creme brulee and flan pocky. You may wonder why there is a horse thingy on it. maybe it's a dog? I don't know

and finally, the sexually discriminating pocky

growing up japanese

now that I think about it...i had a really interesting upbringing. I had the coolest grandparents on the planet. They were SO modern and hip. I had the only grandma I knew with double pierced ears. she had them before I did. She wore bellbottoms and beehive hairdos...when it was in to wear them. my grandpa had every piece of exercise equipment available...and he used it daily. when my aunt got pregnant at a young age, my grandpa fought the school district to let her stay in school and get an education, when it was unacceptable to do so. My grandma let me get a dog, without asking my parents. my cousin lived with them and had a wall full of empty beer bottles and the line that my grandma told her guests was, "well, I guess Barbara just really LIKES bottles.

then on the flip side, there were some things so ingrained in them, it was like we were going back to Japan. take, for instance, their choice of snacks......
If you cannot tell what these are: they are little dried fish. eyeballs and all. Now, let's say we were going to a dinner party at someones home. You reach for chips....you get a handfull of fish instead.

Now THIS is a book

As a kid, I read nonstop. I mean, everywhere we went, I had to have a book. I am an only child, so when we went out with parent's friends, I was reading. When we went to people's houses, I took a book and read the whole time. Anyway, there is this book I read when I was little. it is so great, sophisticated and tells about human nature to little kids. I love it.

i said another piece

man, can I not keep my mouth shut? I wrote to the person that was irritating me this weekend. I did it. I had to. it was a nice email, but direct and to the point. let him know that I had heard what he said and next time, just to come to me. told him i wanted him to succeed....

the race

you've always wondered why the guys go to marathons.....here it is

The trip...

There are not enough words to describe the trip last weekend. Fun, pissy, hot, frustrated, more fun, full, eating too much food. The list could go on and on.

Things that made it good or even great:
1. June
2. Mike
3. Mike winning a medal
4. avocado margaritas
5. looking at huge thighs of a pro
6. the weather
7. sleeping in
8. Woody and Turkish
9. not having a schedule
10. listening to this guy whisper sweet nothings into this girls ear.

Things that made it not great:
1. people being passive agressive...hm, wonder who that was
2. sunburn
3. sleeping arrangements
4. wind
5. well, that is all I can think of....

That's a pretty good trip. it was the best between t and i. i really cannot remember having that much fun and being so laid back in SO long.

I still remember the day the world took you back & there was never time to thank you for the thousand scattered moments you left behind to watch us while we slept.- storypeople.com
